    Recent events held by the Phi Phi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated:

     

    • Sponsored a Financial Fitness Workshop in collaboration with the Ed Isakson Alpharetta/Family YMCA’s Youth Leadership Club and parents. Financial representatives from Ameriprise Financial, Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, United Negro College Fund and Wells Fargo/Roswell Market covered a broad range of topics from budgeting, financing a college education, managing debt to starting investing early. Phi Phi Omega recognizes the value of providing meaningful financial information as building blocks to achieving stronger families in our communities. The Family Strengthening Committee spearheaded this activity led by Phyllis Finley, Chairman and s Janis Mosley & Rhonda Taylor, Co-Chairmen. Charmagne Helton, Chapter President and Kim Slaughter, Vice President & Program Chairman. 

     

    • Taking care of our Adopt-A-Mile Highway off of Morrison Parkway in Alpharetta as “green agents” to promote good stewardship of our natural resources. Karita Ambrose, Chairman and Pamela Barnett and Camille Harris, Co-Chairmen led this effort as part of the Environmental Ownership Committee.     • Sponsored a fun bowling activity to “Strike Out the Stigma” to raise awareness about mental health in the African-American community in collaboration with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). Dr. Natasha Thomas, Psychiatrist – Fresh Start, led an interactive session discussing symptoms mostly impacting women. The event was well attended with over 50+ people. Phi Phi Omega also collected 175+ pairs of socks through the Sock Collection Drive benefiting Roswell Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Everyone wore green to increase awareness of mental health issues. Connie Hampton, Chairman and Kim Brown and Crystal Lemons-Allgood, Co-Chairmen of the Health Promotion Committee led this effort.
